Invisalign® First for Children

At Coquitlam Family Orthodontics in Vancouver we offer Invisalign First, Invisalign's new range of orthodontic aligners designed specifically for children.

What is Invisalign First?

Invisalign First works much like standard Invisalign treatment, but Invisalign First has been designed specifically for a child's developing smile, accommodating the permanent teeth as they erupt.

With Invisalign First common orthodontic issues found in children, such as tooth spacing, crowding and protrusions, arch development and expansion, can be corrected.

As children's teeth grow in, Invisalign First guides them to their correct positions, helping to lessen or eliminate the need for more extensive or invasive orthodontic treatment later.

How Does Invisalign First Work?

Through a process called dental arch expansion, Invisalign First expands and contours the jawline. This increases the width of the dental arch by gradually applying pressure to the teeth.

Our orthodontists can determine whether your child is a candidate for Invisalign First treatment when you bring your child in for their consultation.

If Invisalign First is right for your child, the orthodontist will take detailed pictures, x-rays, and impressions of your child’s teeth, jaws and mouth. These impressions and images will be forwarded to the Invisalign lab, where your child's custom aligner(s) will be made.

Once the custom aligners are ready, your child will return to our office to have their aligners fitted to their smile.

Your child's Invisalign aligners will gradually shift the teeth into their correct positions. Your child could require either a pair of aligners (one for the upper and one for the lower jaw) or just a single aligner, depending on the severity of their misalignment.

Invisalign First Benefits for Children

Invisalign First is a great alternative to conventional Phase 1 Orthodontic treatment for children because Invisalign First is:

  • Designed to specifically treat a broad range of children's orthodontic issues, including crowding, spacing and narrow dental arches.
  • Designed with children's comfort in mind, meaning no irritation from poking wires or rubbing brackets.
  • Removable, so that children are able to brush and floss just like they always have.
