Step 1: Talk to Dr. Couto, Your Invisalign Provider

Dr. Couto is an experienced Invisalign provider. During your consultation, She will evaluate your needs, and determine if Invisalign is right for you. Invisalign can address a wide variety of orthodontic issues, from simple to more complex. The initial consultation with Dr. Couto will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about Invisalign, costs, dental/orthodontic insurance, and any other concerns.

Step 2: A Customized Treatment Plan is Created for You

Our team will take x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. These will be used to develop a digital 3-D image of your mouth. Based on these, Dr. Couto will map out a treatment plan for you, including the precise movements of your teeth, and determine the approximate duration of treatment. We will also demonstrate, using a virtual representation, how your teeth will move during each stage of treatment. Treatment usually takes around a year for adults. For teens, the duration of treatment is similar to that of braces.

Step 3: Receive Your Custom Aligners Based On Your Personalized Treatment Plan

The next step is to create a series of custom, clear aligners specifically to fit your teeth. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that won't irritate the inside of your mouth like traditional metal braces can. You'll wear your aligners all day every day, except when you eat, or brush and floss your teeth. Your teeth will gradually shift into the correct position as you wear each set of aligners.

Step 4: Wear a New Aligner Every Two Weeks

Every two weeks or so, you'll switch to a new set of aligners, and start on the next treatment stage. To monitor your progress, you will also have regular checkups with your orthodontist, approximately every six weeks. For the best and most timely results, you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day throughout your treatment. At every stage, you will be able to see the progress you've made toward having the healthy, beautiful, smile you've always wanted.

Step 5: Reveal Your New Smile & Keep It Looking Great

When you reach the end of treatment, you'll be smiling more than ever! During your last appointment with the Coquitlam Family Orthodontics team, we will determine if you will need to wear a retainer for a period of time to keep your teeth in their new position.

Congratulations on your beautiful new smile!
