The Invisalign process is a custom-made series of clear plastic aligners created for you and only you at Coquitlam Family Orthodontics, you can undergo orthodontic treatment comfortably and conveniently.
During your first consultation, our team will evaluate your needs, and determine if Invisalign is right for you. Invisalign can address a wide variety of orthodontic issues, from simple to more complex. The initial consultation will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about Invisalign, costs, dental/orthodontic insurance, and any other concerns.
Our team will take x-rays, pictures and impressions of your teeth. These will be used to develop a digital 3-D image of your mouth. Based on these, we will map out a treatment plan for you, including the precise movements of your teeth, and determine the approximate duration of treatment. We will also demonstrate, using a virtual representation, how your teeth will move during each stage of treatment. Treatment usually takes around a year for adults. For teens, the duration of treatment is similar to that of braces.
The next step is to create a series of custom, clear aligners specifically to fit your teeth. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable, BPA-free plastic that is unlikely to irritate the inside of your mouth as traditional metal braces can. You'll wear your aligners all day every day, except when you eat or brush and floss your teeth. Your teeth will gradually shift into the correct position as you wear each set of aligners.
Every two weeks or so, you'll switch to a new set of aligners, and start on the next treatment stage. To monitor your progress, you will also have regular checkups with your orthodontist, approximately every six weeks. For the best and most timely results, you should wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day throughout your treatment. At every stage, you will be able to see the progress you've made toward having a straighter and healthier smile.
When you reach the end of treatment, you'll be smiling more than ever! During your last appointment with the Coquitlam Family Orthodontics team, we will determine if you will need to wear a retainer for a period of time to keep your teeth in their new position.
