While undergoing orthodontic treatment, there will be certain foods that you just can’t eat. Dietary limitations can make packing a lunch for school or work tricky, so here are some ideas for convenient and filling snack options from our Coquitlam orthodontists.
Foods like soft cheeses, yogurt and pudding are easy on your braces, packed full of protein and calcium, and are tasty, too! They’re portable and easy to carry around, but do need to be refrigerated after a time.
Watermelon, grapes, kiwis and other soft fruits are refreshing, sweet, and have lots of fibre to help fill you up between meals. Pre-cut your fruit at the beginning of the week and store individual portions in your fridge to grab and go.
Meatballs, lunch meats and soft-cooked meats like chicken are high in protein and will keep you going all day long. Put them on a sandwich or cook up a large batch in sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes and veggies throughout the week.
Cooked vegetables and softer veggies like tomatoes and peppers are easy to prepare and store for easy access during your school or work week. Vegetables are full of vitamins and minerals that will keep your body (including your teeth) healthy and strong.
Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips
There’s a range of healthy cracker and veggie chip options available at the grocery store. Choose something low in sodium, and nothing too hard or crunchy. Eat them with your soft cheeses and some fruit for a simple, delicious and nutritious lunch!
